Did you know I moved to Japan to teach English? 🇯🇵 Back in 2012, I was working in London and felt a strong urge to see more of the world — not just travel, but truly live somewhere completely different. So one evening I went home, did some research, and discovered TEFL teaching. I signed up for a course that same week. I thought it would be easy… it humbled me very quickly. It was intense, but I passed. Within two weeks of qualifying, I was on a flight to Tokyo to teach at Shane English School. I had no long-term plan. Just a feeling that this experience would change me. And it did. I lived in Japan for a year and a half — cycling over 10 miles a day to work, exploring Shibuya at night, discovering Japanese cuisine, experiencing J-pop culture, and even cycling 100km to Mount Fuji with friends, before taken on that epic climb. Reaching the top was incredible… but I actually suffered from altitude sickness up there. It wasn’t glamorous at all. It was tough. Humbling. Uncomfortable. And that’s what made it unforgettable. (Also shoutout to 7/11 for the snack overload after that long ride — my stomach definitely paid the price 😂) It wasn’t always easy. But it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Sometimes the bold moves — the uncomfortable ones — end up shaping you the most. If you’re thinking about travelling and earning at the same time, TEFL might just give you the adventure you didn’t know you needed. #standaretopost #Japan #Tokyo #traveljapan #travelgram @stanforcreators
