For me, being an outsider in a new country, owning a bike means I’ve finally become part of the city.
When I was in junior high, my family got me a GIANT city bike. One day after school, I parked it in front of our house — and it got stolen.
Since then, I’ve always felt like I didn’t deserve to own one.
15 years later, I randomly bought a used frame on eBay just to get around… and somehow, that turned into a dream project.
As a kid, having a road bike was something only rich kids could have.
I started from zero — learning the difference between road, gravel, MTB, city, trekking, and all those parts made between 1960 and 2025.
Since I began with just the frame, every single component had to match perfectly.
It was frustrating at times, but I loved the process.
It’s not about the money — it’s about experience.
For the same budget, I could buy something unique, learn a ton, and build it with my own hands.
Some experiences are worth every cent.
My bike: Cannondale CAAD5 105 Compact (2007)
An 18-year-old racing frame brought back to life.
Most parts came from second-hand sites, flea markets, and even Shopee in Taiwan.
The hardest part? The cost of trial and error.
Buying used parts means sometimes they’re bent, worn, or just wrong.
With metal parts, precision is everything — one small mistake, and you’re literally gambling with your life.
There’s still so much more I want to share about this build —
but for now, this is the beginning. ✨
Cannondale CAAD5 105 Compact 2007
